In the latest installment of our “Top 10 Must-Haves” series, we take a look at the best vehicles for those who like to take things to the extreme.
It is worth noting that not all of these cars are the best of the best.
In fact, some are quite decent.
But, when it comes to those vehicles that are truly outstanding, the Chevrolet Volt remains the undisputed winner.
Read moreWhat is it?
The Chevy Volt is a plug-in hybrid car with a fuel economy of 36 miles per gallon.
It has an electric motor that powers the rear wheels, and a hydrogen fuel cell, or HFC, for the battery.
The electric motor is paired with an 8-kWh battery pack, which is charged via a lithium-ion battery pack.
A hydrogen fuel source (also known as a “gigafactory”) provides electricity and the hydrogen to power the wheels.
The battery pack is charged by a rechargeable lithium-polymer battery pack that comes in two versions: a standard lithium-air battery and a more advanced lithium-sulfur battery.
The Volt’s price tag: $42,990 for the standard version and $39,990 on the higher-end version.
The fuel economy: 36 miles on a gallon of gasoline and 36 miles off of the battery’s combined gas and electricity, or a total of 48.5 mpg (MPG).
That means the Volt can pull around 5,500 miles on the battery before needing to be refueled.
The car is available in a variety of color options, including white, gray, and red.
The base Volt comes in a white, black, and black-red option, and you can choose from an option of either silver or white or gray.
The optional premium model is a bit more expensive, with a price tag of $52,990.
What are the other perks?
The Volt has a variety and levels of advanced safety features that you can access via the touchscreen or with an app, including a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and blind spot monitoring.
The car also comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which makes it easy to switch between manual and automatic transmissions.
The Volt comes with an all-wheel drive system, which can also be disabled for the sake of fuel efficiency.
It also comes standard with 16-inch touchscreen navigation and a 6.2-inch infotainment screen.
The Chevy Vans base price: $37,990 (US), $41,990, and $48,990 respectively.
The higher-priced model comes in silver, black and silver-red.
